Brats before encountering his earliest movies. Older audiences may still immediately picture Blane standing opposite Molly Ringwald in Pretty in Pink. Both versions belong to the same career. The difference is that one represents a moment captured when McCarthy was barely into adulthood, while the other reflects more than four decades of life and work. Reducing him to either version alone misses much of the story.
The story is therefore less about how an 1980s heartthrob “looks now” than about what happened after the posters stopped representing his everyday life.
